The owner's care guide

Keep the gloss.
Know the routine.

Your ceramic coating makes maintenance easier, but it still needs regular, gentle washing. Save this guide for the first week and every wash after.

01 Fresh coating

The first
7 days.

Freshly applied coatings continue to cure after pickup. The exact window depends on the product and conditions, so follow the instructions we give you for your vehicle.

YOUR FIRST WEEKHANDLE WITH CARE
  1. 01

    Hold off on washing

Plan to wait at least 7 days before your first wash. Follow the instructions for your specific coating if they require a longer interval. Skip detergents, automatic washes, and chemical cleaners during this period.

  2. 02

    Limit standing water

Keep the vehicle sheltered during the initial cure when possible. If rain or sprinklers leave water behind, ask us how to handle it; avoid rubbing a dusty surface dry.

  3. 03

    Act on droppings and bugs

Bird droppings and insect residue can still mark a coating. Soften them with clean water and lift gently with a clean, soft microfiber towel. Never scrape or scrub; call us if residue remains.

02 Regular maintenance

A wash routine that
respects the finish.

Wash about every two to four weeks, or sooner when road salt, pollen, or grime builds up. Work in the shade on cool panels.

  1. 01

    Pre-rinse

Rinse loose grit from top to bottom. Pay attention to lower panels, wheel arches, and winter salt deposits before touching the paint.

  2. 02

    Hand wash gently

Use a coating-compatible, pH-neutral car shampoo and a clean microfiber wash mitt. Wash the upper panels first; use separate tools for wheels and the dirtiest areas.

  3. 03

    Rinse thoroughly

Do not let shampoo dry on the surface. Rinse each section well, especially around trim, mirrors, and badges.

  4. 04

    Dry the car

Use a clean, soft microfiber drying towel or filtered air. Drying helps prevent mineral water spots, especially with hard tap water.

Keep a dedicated kit.

A clean mitt, separate wheel tools, fresh towels, and a coating-safe shampoo do more for the finish than adding extra chemicals.

03 Everyday habits

A few habits make
the difference.

DO
  • Rinse salt and road film off as soon as practical.
  • Remove bird droppings, bugs, and tree sap promptly with a coating-safe method.
  • Keep wash mitts and towels clean and free of grit.
  • Ask us before using a new decontamination or ceramic booster product.
AVOID
  • Brush-style automatic washes; brushes can leave swirls.
  • Automated touchless pressure-wash bays; many rely on strong, high-pH detergents that can degrade ceramic coating performance with repeated use.
  • Wiping dust or dirt from dry paint.
  • Household cleaners, harsh degreasers, or polishing compounds without guidance.
  • Letting tap water dry on the car in direct sun.
04 Chicago area care

Winter salt.
Summer sun.

In a Chicago area winter, do not leave salt caked onto lower panels for weeks. Rinse and wash when temperatures allow, and dry door jambs and seals so water does not freeze there.

In warmer months, keep up with pollen, sap, bugs, and sprinkler water. Coatings make these easier to clean, but they do not make the surface immune to etching or water spots.

Ask about a maintenance detail
05 Good to know

Aftercare
questions.

If something looks unusual, we can inspect the finish and recommend the right next step.

Can I use a brush-style automatic car wash?

We recommend a careful hand wash instead. Automatic wash brushes can trap grit and leave swirl marks on the finish.

What if water stops beading?

Road film and mineral deposits can mask a coating’s water behavior. A safe wash is the first step. If performance still seems reduced, let us inspect it before you polish or apply a strong cleaner.

Do I need wax or a ceramic booster?

Routine washing is the foundation. Some coatings have compatible maintenance toppers, but products differ. Ask us which one suits the coating installed on your car.

Will ceramic coating prevent scratches and water spots?

No coating makes paint scratch-proof or spot-proof. Clean wash tools, gentle technique, prompt contaminant removal, and thorough drying still matter.

How often should I book professional maintenance?

We can inspect your coating during a maintenance detail and tailor timing to your driving and parking conditions. If your coating has a warranty, follow its inspection and maintenance terms. Read our warranty guide for help identifying them.
